The company is based in Basel, Switzerland and it claims 1000 <strong>Wh\/kg battery breakthrough <\/strong>with unprecedented levels of safety, durability, power and now energy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>The EV revolution is currently stymied by the limitations of available batteries.<\/em>\u201d explains Sergey Buchin, CEO of Innolith AG.&nbsp;&nbsp;\u201c<em>Consumers want an adequate range on a. single charge in an affordable EV, and confidence that it is not going to catch fire.&nbsp;&nbsp;The Innolith Energy Battery is the breakthrough technology that potentially can meet all these needs.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Yesterday this company announced it is developing <strong>the world\u2019s first 1000 Wh\/kg rechargeable battery.<\/strong> The new battery would be capable of powering an Electric Vehicle&nbsp;for over<span style=\"color: #333333;\"> 1000<span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span> km <\/span>on a single charge.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-13459\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wallboxok.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Innolith-Batteries-2-640x598.jpg\" alt=\"Innolith Batteries\" width=\"640\" height=\"598\"><\/p>\n<p>Credits: Innolith<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>A big jump<\/h3>\n<p>\u201c<em>It\u2019s a big jump<\/em>\u201d, Innolith Chairman Alan Greenshileds said in the interview with The Verge. And indeed, the jump is big. To understand it better, we can compare it to batteries used by Tesla in its Model 3<span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span> The so-called 2170 cells are estimated 250 Wh\/kg, which company plans to push to 330 Wh\/kg in the future. On the other hand, Innolith clams to have made the world\u2019s first 1000 Wh\/kg rechargeable battery.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>How will they do it and what are the benefits of Energy Battery?<\/h3>\n<p>The company has replaced the organic, highly flammable solvent<span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span> used in lithium-ion batteries with an inorganic substance that is more stable and less flammable.<\/p>\n<p>This battery will be the first non-flammable lithium-based battery for use in EVs. It uses a non-flammable inorganic electrolyte, unlike conventional EV batteries<span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span> that use a flammable organic electrolyte. The switch to non-flammable batteries removes the primary cause of battery fires that have beset the manufacturers of EVs.<\/p>\n<p>Greenshields described it:<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>We take the organic materials out and replace them with inorganic or basically a salt-like materials, and that does two things for you. One is it gets rid of your fire risk, so, of course, there\u2019s nothing to burn. And the second part is you\u2019ve also got rid of the most reactive components in the <span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"><span style=\"color: #333333;\">system<span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/span>,<\/span>which makes it easier to build a battery where you can pack in a lot of energy without the thing becoming unstable<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe absence of organic materials, a key aspect of Innolith\u2019s battery technology,<span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span> removes the critical source of safety risk and chemical instability of high energy batteries. It all fell into place in 2018 from an R&amp;D perspective, with several extraordinary breakthroughs.\u201d&nbsp;<\/em>explained Greenshields.<\/p>\n<p>The other benefits of Innolith Energy Battery would be cost reduction due to<span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span> \u201c<em>avoidance of exotic and expensive materials combination with the very high energy density of the system.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-13460\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wallboxok.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Gridbank-2-640x199.jpg\" alt=\"Innolith Gridbank\" width=\"640\" height=\"199\"><\/p>\n<p>Credit: Innolith<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Production of Energy Battery<\/h3>\n<p>Innolith will begin pilot production in Germany, which will be followed by licensing partnerships<span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span> with major batter and automotive companies.
