How to customise power control?
Below is a comprehensive guide on how to effectively customise power control to ensure optimal performance.
It is important to note that this is merely a guide that you should adapt to your specific needs, tariffs, type of installation, and lifestyle. Beyond how to customise power control, what is truly important is understanding the reasons behind it: to enjoy all the benefits that personalisation offers, such as significant savings on energy consumption and a more efficient use of energy.
Users of charging points with any of the power control modes activated can customise it through the V2C Cloud app or by visiting the portal www.v2c.cloud, selecting the e-Charger, and accessing its settings.
Regulating charge intensity
The most basic function of power control personalisation, regardless of your e-Charger, allows you to determine the range between the minimum and maximum intensity within which the charge will fluctuate by simply sliding left or right.
If you have an e-Charger Pole Pro, configure both values for each socket.
You must keep in mind that between the maximum charge intensity value you assign and the contracted power value, the lower of the two will always prevail.
Setting up charge profiles
Charge profiles allow us to establish different contracted powers according to time slots, thus regulating the intensity. To do this, power segments must be defined that completely cover the 24 hours of the day, leaving no gaps, both from Monday to Friday and on weekends. If these are not correctly completed, it will not be possible to save the customised settings.
Charge profiles WITHOUT photovoltaic energy
Access the section ‘configure charging profile’ to plan various customisations of the power control. You can set the selection of power intervals by hours and contracted power, as well as differentiate between weekends and weekdays.*
It is possible to perform the configuration via Bluetooth or WiFi (if this connection is available).
The customisation of charging profiles can only be carried out if the power control has been configured and activated correctly beforehand.
Access the section ‘configuration of the charging profile’ to plan various customisations of the power control. In this section, you will be able to adjust the power ranges according to hours and contracted power, differentiating between weekdays and weekends.
To configure Pole Pro, in addition to the contracted power, it is necessary to establish the intensity limit per phase, whether in a single-phase or three-phase charger. To carry out this configuration correctly, you must take into account the single-line diagram or phase map of the equipment installation.
Bear in mind that the customisation of charging profiles is only possible if the power control has been correctly configured and activated beforehand.
* When selecting, editing, or deleting a customisation, press the save button to ensure that all changes are correctly saved.
** It is essential to fill in the time segments completely, covering 24 hours a day without leaving gaps, and for every day of the week. If not, saving the customisation will not be possible.
Charge profiles WITH photovoltaic energy
In installations with photovoltaic generation, various energy management modes have been designed through power control. These allow you to select, for each time slot, whether during the week or on weekends, the type of energy you wish to use.
Below, we explain how each mode works so that you can choose the most suitable one when configuring the power segments.
ENERGY MANAGEMENT MODES
FV Exclusive
In Exclusive Solar Mode, the e-Charger focuses on maximising solar energy utilisation to reduce consumption from the conventional power grid. This mode aims to achieve a household energy consumption from the power grid equal to 0 kW as long as sufficient solar energy is available, or otherwise utilise any surplus.
When solar energy production exceeds the household demand, the system intelligently adjusts the energy distribution. If you plug in your vehicle at that moment, the charger will attempt to modify the solar export to ensure it is equal to 0 kW. This means that any additional kW will be directed towards charging the electric car rather than being sent back to the grid.
However, Exclusive Solar Mode is also aware of fluctuations in solar production. For example, at night or on cloudy days, solar energy generation may decrease. In such cases, if the energy demand in the home persists, the charger will stop charging the electric vehicle. This ensures that essential electrical resources are not depleted, allowing the household to function optimally.
FV + Minimum Grid
The Minimum Grid + Photovoltaic Mode aims to maximise surplus utilisation without sacrificing charging continuity.
Unlike the exclusive photovoltaic mode, where the e-Charger may cut off the charge if there is insufficient solar energy, this configuration maintains a minimum charging threshold, usually set by the customer via the V2C Cloud app or www.v2c.cloud. This value ensures that the vehicle always charges at least at a minimum power level.
The advantages of this mode over the previous one are the continuity of charging and the ability to make the most of surpluses, complemented by a minimum consumption from the grid until the previously configured minimum charging power is reached.
During the night, when solar production is nil, the charger will maintain a minimum charge using the energy from the provider, ensuring continuity even under conditions of low solar production.
*In photovoltaic installations equipped with batteries, if the goal is to avoid discharging the batteries, the inverter must be configured to limit such discharges.
Grid + Photovoltaic Mode (Maximum Charging Speed)
This mode is configured to charge at the maximum power contracted with the energy provider, in addition to the available solar production.
If the grid consumption exceeds the power contracted with the distributor, the e-Charger will cut off the vehicle’s charging until the household consumption decreases or solar production increases. This helps prevent exceeding the contracted powe.
No charging
This mode allows users to have complete control over the electric vehicle charging process. Instead of charging automatically, this mode provides the ability to schedule interruptions based on preferences and needs.
The distinctive feature of this mode is that specific time slots can be programmed during which electric vehicle charging is not desired. This is useful, for example, to avoid using the grid during peak electricity demand hours.
No Injection or Isolated (for Trydan and Trydan Pro only)
In the case of isolated installations, the e-Charger does not have access to a traditional electricity meter or parameters such as contracted power. Instead, an inverter is used that measures the instantaneous consumption of the house and generates the corresponding energy based on what the house consumes at that moment. Batteries also play a fundamental role by storing surplus solar energy during the day for use at night.
The main objective in this context is to prioritise charging the electric vehicle with solar energy, without using the stored energy in the batteries, whenever possible.
In this environment, both Trydan and Trydan Pro require a direct connection to an inverter that allows the reading of the instantaneous power of the batteries to obtain information about the available energy and the charging conditions. This way, it will be possible to dynamically adjust the electric vehicle’s charging based on the household consumption and the energy available at that moment.
If the house begins to consume more energy, the e-Charger reduces the charging of the car to avoid depleting the house’s battery. Conversely, if the house consumes less energy, it increases the car’s charging.
Just as in installations that do not have photovoltaic energy, you can adjust the power control according to your needs via Bluetooth or WiFi (if this connection is available) simply by clicking on ‘charging profile settings’.
You must configure the power by hours and select the energy mode that will be used for each power segment. Additionally, if the selected mode includes grid energy, you need to enter the contracted power.
The customisation of a charging profile through power segments is only possible if the power control has been configured and activated correctly.
To adjust the power control of Pole Pro in a photovoltaic installation, access ‘charging profile settings’, where you will be able to configure the power by hours and the energy mode. If grid energy is used, you must enter the contracted power.
In addition to the contracted power, it is necessary to establish the intensity limit per phase, whether single-phase or three-phase, taking into account the installation scheme.
Customisation can only be carried out if the power control is correctly configured and activated.
* When choosing, modifying, or deleting a customisation, it is crucial to click the save button to ensure that all changes are properly stored.
** It is essential to fully complete the time slots, covering all 24 hours of the day and every day of the week. Otherwise, the custom configuration cannot be saved.
