MODBUS RTU connection for Trydan charging point to meter as slave

The Trydan charging point connects via the Modbus RTU protocol, with two purposes:

  1. Operate the charging point remotely. Advanced Users see: MODBUS Memory
  2. Obtain data from commercial Smart Meters for integration as a slave, with photovoltaic compatibility.

Compatible meters

New meters are constantly being added, with the current list being:

  • Chint DDSU666-H (commonly used in Huawei, SAJ inverters..)
  • Eastron (SDM120/220/320)
  • Phoneix Contact
  • Carlo Gavazzi

Electrical Connection

The MODBUS RTU connections are made through two wires. The meter must have a port A and B. And that cable needs to be taken to our charging point. The meter must be configured to address 1 and with a Baud Rate of 9600 (this is usually the default configuration and most photovoltaic meters use this default setting). The connection goes directly into the RJ45 connector of the charging point. A and B are the wires that come out below marked. The rest do not need to be connected. 4 B and 5 A. The type of cable does not matter although an ethernet cable is cheaper and shielded.

Select the corresponding meter in the APP

Attention in photovoltaic mode, all operating modes will function although the customer will not be able to see the photovoltaic generation at the charging point.
