Static power control across multiple e-Chargers

Static power control across multiple e-Chargers (balancing between e-Chargers) is an advanced solution that efficiently distributes available energy among all chargers. This allows total power to be automatically allocated across the chargers, thereby preventing network overloads and maximising the use of available energy.

This feature is especially useful in locations with power limitations, whether due to the wiring infrastructure or the site’s limited electrical capacity, as it automatically adjusts the chargers’ power to suit the installation constraints.

Additionally, it enables installation scalability, allowing equipment to be added as needed.

This system operates on a local network, making it completely independent of the chargers’ internet connection. Its advanced communication system not only reduces installation communication costs but also offers extensive flexibility without requiring complex configurations.

Although an internet connection is not mandatory, it is recommended for improved system monitoring and easier setup. If you choose to connect the e-Chargers to the internet for enhanced dynamic control between multiple e-Chargers, all devices must be connected to the same local network.

Installation should be performed by qualified and competent technical personnel, fully responsible for ensuring compliance with current installation regulations and standards.

Available connection options for multiple Pole Pro

Option 1: Shared router with 4G or fibre

In this setup, a shared router with a 4G connection or an existing fibre network must be used to interconnect all devices on the same local network. This router must also have an identical gateway for all devices needing energy balancing.

For a standard installation, a router that generates the local network is required. This router must connect to a central hub or switch with enough ports for all e-Chargers. In smaller installations with enough Ethernet ports on the router, no hub is needed; the connection is directly to the router.

TCP/IP connections should follow a star topology, with each charger connected to its own network cable. UTP cable has a maximum length of 100 metres. If a longer distance is required, fibre optics should be used.

Option 2: WiFi connection

Provided there is adequate coverage, WiFi can also be used to connect to the router. The only requirement is that the connection is stable and reliable for all e-Chargers.

Option 3: Serial connection

Lastly, serial connection of charging points is possible, saving Ethernet cable and simplifying installation. A Split-Ethernet device, which can be purchased separately from Pole Pro, is used for this purpose.

This device connects the Ethernet cable to the e-Charger input. It includes a USB connector for the designated port and two Ethernet ports: one for the incoming installation cable and the other for the cable extending to the next charger.

The connection runs from the router to the first splitter, as shown in the image. This splitter is connected to the power board via an Ethernet cable and a USB cable. Subsequently, a UTP cable extends from the splitter to the next Pole Pro. This is the schematic that the connections will follow all the way to the last device in the chain. For this last device, a splitter is not necessary; the UTP cable can be connected directly to the control board.

Configuration and activation of static power control for Multiple Pole Pro e-Chargers

Among all connected charging points, you can enable e-Charger balancing only on the devices you choose. To prioritise a specific charger and exclude it from balancing, simply leave the function disabled on that device.

To enable balancing across multiple e-Chargers, access the V2C Cloud app on your smartphone or computer, then pair the chargers and activate dynamic power control on all devices.

Two configurations are available, depending on the charger’s role: the primary or ‘Master’ unit, and secondary ‘Slave’ units.

Setting Pole Pro as Master

To configure the primary device, first designate it as the ‘Master’ device. Next, select ‘no meter’ if the installation has multiple e-Chargers without an external installation or photovoltaic energy, and indicate the installation type.

Once power control is activated and configured on all charging points, the Master will automatically recognise all connected and active chargers on the network as ‘Slaves’.

A feature called ‘View slave list’ also allows you to see the list of all secondary devices it communicates with, along with detailed information for each.

Customising power control is essential to maximise efficiency. Adjusting charge profiles to meet your specific needs not only conserves energy but also optimises overall consumption. Precise configuration of charge profiles offers control over charge timing and intensity, significantly reducing energy costs.
