Charging stations for electric vehicles

In 2040, the Government will prohibit the sale of combustion cars, but the Climate Change and Energy Transition Law also has other headlines of great interest, such as requiring large gas stations to have charging points for electric cars.

Which gas stations will need to install charging points for electric cars? Those that sell more than five million liters of fuel per year. This provision will be included in an amendment to the Hydrocarbons Law, and non-compliance will be considered a very serious offense. The regulations being developed by the government would include fines of up to 30 million euros for large gas stations that do not comply.

What is the deadline for gas stations to install charging points for electric cars?

  • If the gas station sold between 5 and 10 million liters of fuel in 2017, from the entry into force of the law, they will have a period of 15 months to submit their installation project and another 12 months to have it operational. The power that these charging points must have is 22kW, which means they will be very fast charges.

  • Shorter deadlines if the gas station sold more than 10 million liters of fuel in 2017. In this case, they have 12 months to submit the project and 9 months to carry it out. Total 21 months.
