The Community of Madrid subsidizes with 2 million euros in 2018 the renewal of fleets with less polluting vehicles.

The Community will subsidize the renewal of fleets with less polluting vehicles with 2 million euros in 2018.

  • The regional government will exclusively subsidize CERO and ECO category vehicles in 2018
  • In 2017, thanks to the PIVCEM, 43.9% more commercial delivery vehicles were renewed
  • The PIAM Plan has allowed for the renewal of 522 taxis in the Community, 10% more than in the last year.

The Government of the Community of Madrid will again subsidize, with two million euros in 2018, the renewal and acquisition of light commercial and taxi vehicles. These two million euros in subsidies are intended for the Efficient Light Commercial Vehicle Incentive Plan, Auxiliary and Services of the Community of Madrid, better known as the PIVCEM Plan, and the Taxi Incentive Plan of Madrid, called the PIAM Plan, both endowed with one million euros each. This was stated by the Minister of Environment, Local Administration, and Land Planning, Pedro Rollán, who visited this morning in the Valdebernardo Forest Park, some of the new vehicles acquired through these two Plans. “The main novelty for 2018 is that the regional government will exclusively finance those CERO and ECO vehicles, in addition to category C euro-taxis and N2 category vehicles of up to 12,000 kilos”, he pointed out. “This year, the DGT badges are already being used, and PIAM aids will be granted not only to self-employed professionals but also to SMEs. “These measures are of utmost importance in contributing to improving the air quality that Madrid citizens breathe. In 2017, thanks to the PIAM, a reduction of 24.4 tons of nitrogen oxides and 5,470.8 tons of CO2 per year was achieved. For its part, the PIVCEM currently represents a reduction of emissions to the atmosphere of 710 kilograms of nitrogen oxides and 28 tons of CO2 per year,” the minister noted.

ONE MILLION EUROS IN AID TO PIVCEM SINCE 2015

Since 2015, the regional government has allocated one million euros to the Efficient Light Commercial Vehicle Incentive Plan, Auxiliary and Services (PIVCEM), for the renewal of polluting vehicles with more ecological and less polluting ones. In 2017, thanks to this subsidy, 308 commercial vehicles were renewed from 173 companies. In total, there are 94 more vehicles and 81 new beneficiaries compared to 2016, which represents an increase of 43.9%.

The Community of Madrid has granted an average of 3,000 euros in aid for each vehicle change, contributing up to a maximum of 35% of the cost of the electric vehicle. These aids, which have been granted since 2015, have enabled the renewal of 651 commercial vehicles, contributing to improving the air quality in the region.

10% MORE TAXIS RENEWED IN 2017

Rollán also reported on the renewal of taxi fleets in the past year. The Taxi Incentive Plan of Madrid, PIAM, has made it possible to renew 522 taxis in 2017, which is 10% more than in 2016. The PIAM has been in effect since 2013, and since then it has allowed for the renewal of 2,185 taxis, which represents more than 13% of the taxi fleet in the Community of Madrid, he indicated. In short, thanks to the 2 million euros allocated by the regional government for the acquisition of electric vehicles in 2017, 1,015 vehicles have been renewed.

Since last Friday, March 2, the modification of the regulatory bases has been published in the Official Bulletin of the Community of Madrid (BOCM), where the main novelties and requirements of the two aid plans are outlined.

The Community of Madrid is processing the call for the selection, in a public competition regime, of the collaborating entity for the management of the aids. These will range from 2,000 to 10,000 euros per vehicle and can subsidize up to five vehicles per applicant or company.

All these measures are framed within commitment 252 of the electoral program of the president of the Community of Madrid, Cristina Cifuentes, which includes the commitment to ‘reduce emissions in the transport of passengers and goods within the Air Quality and Climate Change strategy, Plan Azul+’.
