The Valencian Community triples the charging points for electric cars in 2 years

The Valencian Community triples the number of charging points for electric cars in 2 years with 353 stations, ranking fourth nationally, with Catalonia as the leader.

The Valencian Community is the fourth Spanish autonomous community with the highest number of charging points for electric vehicles, totaling 353, three times more than two years ago, and it is behind Catalonia, with 939; Madrid, which has 453; and the Balearic Islands, with 401.

Spain, with 3,856 public charging points for electric cars, is the fifth country in the world with the most installations of this type, after the USA (17,143), France (6,899), Germany (5,546), and the Netherlands (5,225), according to a study by UniEléctrica.

The renewable energy company has highlighted that although the new legislation has facilitated the installation of charging points for individuals in the garages of apartment blocks, more work will be needed to replace up to 2040 a fleet of 22.87 million diesel (13.04 million) and gasoline (9.82 million) vehicles with zero-emission cars.

The Government has proposed in the draft of the climate change and energy transition law the prohibition in 2040 of the sale of vehicles that emit CO2 and their circulation in 2050.

UniEléctrica cites data from the INE indicating that, at the beginning of 2017, there were 17,614 cars without combustion engines (including hybrids and gas) in Spain, and having 3,856 points – despite being more than triple the installations from two years ago – makes the challenge complex for this emerging fleet of vehicles, whose recharges are frequent and prolonged.

By communities, Catalonia accounts for a quarter of the charging points across the national territory, with 939, most of them in the vicinity of the city of Barcelona (641), according to the study conducted by the green energy company, which cross-references official data with that of, for example, the web platform “electromaps.com”.

In Madrid, the aforementioned specialized website has registered 453 charging points, followed in the ranking by the Balearic Islands (401), Valencia (353), Andalusia (346), Castilla León (238), the Canary Islands (186), the Basque Country (138), Galicia (137), Murcia (120), Aragón (105), Castilla-La Mancha (104), Asturias (102), Extremadura (82), Navarra (67), Cantabria (50), and La Rioja (30), along with another 5 charging points in the autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla.

By type of connectors, the most common plugs at these public charging points are Schuko (EU Plug), with 2,226 connections, and TYPE 2 (Mennekes), with 2,354 points, as it is “not uncommon” to find stations and refueling points.
