V2C at the Rallye Aicha des Gazelles, an exclusive women’s race

The 28th edition of the Rallye Aicha des Gazelles started on March 17, 2018, in Nice (France) and ended in Essaouira (Morocco) on March 31, 2018.

The Rallye Aicha des Gazelles has been held since 1990, making it a 26-year-old initiative and the first rally where women from all over the world come together. The women participating in this rally traverse the Moroccan desert without navigation equipment like GPS. Participants can only use traditional paper maps, a ruler, and compasses.

This rally resembles more of an orienteering race, so the goal here is to arrive with the fewest kilometers possible. Speed is not important. It is also the only rally in the world to have ISO 14001 certification, which recognizes the organization’s good environmental management. The Rallye Aicha des Gazelles brings together 165 teams of women from all over the world; this year, women from over 30 countries have gathered, with participants ranging from 18 to 71 years old.

The Rallye Aicha des Gazelles is an initiative promoted by Dominique Serra, and the competition aims to create a global community of women who have come together in Morocco, known as the “gazelles.”

Additionally, by celebrating this Rallye Aicha des Gazelles, it promotes sustainable development; the organization provides medical care to the populations of Morocco and fights against illiteracy in the country.

On the other hand, the race limits CO² emissions not only because teams must cover the fewest kilometers possible to win, but also because all emissions are financially offset to the association of Yann Artus Bertrand: Action Carbone solidaire.

The vehicles participating in this Rallye Aicha des Gazelles are of different types: Quadricycles (buggy, quad) and cars. This year, 6 electric cars are participating and contributing to the sustainability of the event. V2C, a company dedicated to charging points for electric vehicles, is also participating in the Rallye, equipping these electric cars with our portable charging points.

The participants using electric cars are in the E-GAZELLE CLASS category. There are a total of five teams:
