The Renault ZOE was announced in 2012 at the Geneva Motor Show. It measures slightly more than the Renault Clio, measuring 4084 mm in length and has a 5-door hatchback body.

Its motor is equipped with a 65KW (88HP) electric motor with 220 Nm of torque from 250 rpm. The maximum speed of the Renault ZOE is 135 km/h. Its battery is lithium-ion with a capacity of 22 kWh.

The 22 kWh battery has a range of 210 km according to the NEDC cycle. The real range is estimated to be between 100 and 150 km, depending on driving conditions.

The 41 kWh battery has a range of 400 km according to the NEDC cycle, although Renault expects a real range of about 300 km.

How is the charging of the Renault ZOE?

The Renault ZOE can be charged in different ways, reaching full charge from empty in 30 minutes to up to 9 hours, depending on the power of the available outlet, which can vary between 3 and 43 kW thanks to the integrated Chameleon charger in the car.

The ZOE can charge in single-phase at approximately 3 and 7 kW and at 11, 22, and 43 kW in three-phase.

  • Standard Charging: allows for a full charge between 6 and 9 hours (depending on the available power) by simply connecting the car to a public or home charging point with a minimum power of 3 kW
  • Accelerated Charging 22 kW: charges 80% of the battery in 1 hour at a public charging point.
  • Fast Charging 43 kW: charges 80% of the battery in 30 minutes at a public charging point.

It comes with a blue cable about 6 m long with “type 2” (Mennekes) connectors according to IEC 62196-2 at both ends, male and female, prepared for single-phase and three-phase charging in “mode 3”. Direct charging in “mode 1” with Schuko connector is not available, but a CRO or occasional charger can be used in “mode 2” with that connector.
