Trydan now lets you choose whether your solar surplus charges the car first or the home batteries

Trydan and Trydan Pro stand out for their integration with photovoltaic installations, and we’ve continued to work on improving the experience for those who also have home storage batteries. Now you can decide not only if your charger can use the home batteries, but also what gets charged first with the solar surplus: the car or the batteries themselves.

Use of home batteries

If your photovoltaic installation includes home batteries, you can choose whether the e-Charger can use them to charge the car, or if you prefer to leave them completely out of the equation. This option is available in the Grid + Photovoltaic and Photovoltaic + Minimum power modes when setting up the charging profiles:

  • No batteries: the car charges only with energy from the grid and solar power, without using the home batteries.
  • With batteries: the charger can draw energy from the home batteries whenever it needs to keep charging the car.
This is how it looks in the app
Home batteries excluded. The car will charge only with grid and photovoltaic energy; home batteries will not be used.

Charging priority: car or home battery first

Also, now you can choose what your photovoltaic surplus does first: charge the car or the home batteries. This new option appears in the Exclusive Photovoltaic mode, within the charging profiles:

  • Priority car: the excess solar energy charges the vehicle first, and what’s left goes to the home batteries.
  • Priority home: the solar surplus charges the home batteries first and what’s left goes to the vehicle.
This is how it looks in the app
Priority car. Excess solar energy will first charge the car’s battery. The surplus will go to the home battery.

This way, if you prefer to keep your home battery always at maximum charge, you can prioritize it over the car. Or if you’re interested in using every solar kWh for the vehicle, you can do just the opposite.

These features are now available in Trydan and Trydan Pro, the V2C chargers designed to get the most out of your photovoltaic installation.

Requirements

Both functions require a Trydan or Trydan Pro with photovoltaics activated in the dynamic power control.

The charging priority is available from firmware version 2.5.1 and works with any inverter or meter. The use of home batteries is available from version 2.5.0, in case you have one of the compatible inverters: Huawei, Fronius, GoodWe, Solis, Deye, Sungrow, EMMA, or Sigenergy. You can check how to update your Trydan or Trydan Pro to the latest version.

In both cases, you need to have the V2C mobile app updated to version 3.2.3 or higher.
