In China, where it is actually sold, the Song L DM-i starts at around 120,000 yuan for the entry version with the 10 kWh battery, and the range runs up to roughly 249,800 yuan.
Those are Chinese list prices and they are not a guide to what the car would cost in Europe. Converting them into euros or pounds, as this article previously did, produces a misleading figure: import duties, homologation, different equipment levels and local warranty all sit between the two markets, and the gap is substantial.
Can you buy the BYD Song L in Europe?
No. BYD does not sell the Song L in any European market. It does not appear in the line-up on BYD’s national websites, and earlier reports placing its European launch at the end of 2024 did not materialise.
It is worth not confusing it with two similarly named models. The Song Plus is a different, smaller car, and that one is sold here, rebadged as the Seal U (and as the Sealion 6 in Australia, New Zealand, Thailand and the Philippines). The Song L is a larger mid-size SUV that was never given an international name.

It also runs the same DM-i technology described above, which is the real reason the Song L is worth understanding even though you cannot buy one. The efficiency figures that made headlines come from that system, and the Seal U DM-i, Seal 6 DM-i and Sealion 5 DM-i are how it reaches European buyers.

A plug-in hybrid only delivers its advantage if the battery starts each day full, and that means charging at home rather than relying on public chargers.
